Lack of leadership within Islam?
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) wins another one…

When self-proclaimed Islamists hijack a plane and murder everyone on board, what’s the ONE religion whose symbolism you would probably want to avoid in a memorial to that horrible event? “Islam”, maybe?
Not so, in the wacky world of political correctness!
Explain the decision to build a memorial to United Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA in the shape of a red crescent, one of the most widely-recognized symbols of Islam.

The designers themselves aren’t any help in understanding this. They are pleading ignorance. “It never even occurred to us,” they claim.
Oh, really?
“The competition received more than 1,000 entries of design concepts, including narrative and graphic descriptions for the Flight 93 National Memorial. The competition was funded through the generous support of the Heinz Endowments and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.”
“The selected Memorial was designed by Paul Murdoch Architects of Los Angeles, California with Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects of Charlottesville, Virginia. Specializing in architecture, urban design and interiors, Paul Murdoch Architects’ experience includes master planning, architecture and interior architecture for institutional, governmental, commercial and residential building types. Nelson Byrd Woltz provides a broad range of landscape architectural design services including town, corporate, residential and park planning in the United States and abroad.”

Fouad El Bayly of Somerset, leader of the Islamic Center of Johnstown, however, has said Muslims flying over Pennsylvania would immediately recognize the symbolism in the design. “The crescent is a symbol of Islamic faith,” El Bayly said.

Lunatics have taken over the asylum, folks!
Indeed, why not a Kool-Aid stand at the site of the Jonestown Massacre? A mosque at Ground Zero in New York? Or a Shinto shrine at Pearl Harbor?
God, preserve us from fools with government grants…

Hello,
I am an artist currently researching 9/11- related imagery for my own artwork. I came across this - and the site - while looking for other artwork about the events of 9/11… Speaking as an artist, this concept is quite baffling! Indeed, the crescent is a universally recognized image representing Islam. Why is being used in an American memorial? I’ve grown to understand the symbolism of the Vietnam Memorial - Despite controversy that surrounds it to this day… Anyhow, I hope this is some kind of “ironic” joke. Is this actually being installed or “built”?
