I came across this - and the site - while looking for other artwork about the events of 9/11... Speaking as an artist, this concept is quite baffling! Indeed, the crescent is a universally recognized image representing Islam. Why is being used in an American memorial? I've grown to understand the symbolism of the Vietnam Memorial - Despite controversy that surrounds it to this day... Anyhow, I hope this is some kind of "ironic" joke.
